McDONALD

Schools Treasurer Brian Stidham has resigned to take the job of treasurer at Mathews schools.

“I’m hoping I can take the knowledge I’ve learned here and help my own community,” Stidham, 38, said.

He will start March 1 as an interim treasurer unpaid in Mathews, and he officially resigns in McDonald on March 15, where he also has said he will work past his last day to assist in the transition.

The position will be posted immediately, and the deadline for applications will be Feb. 28.

He and his son, Chad, reside in Mathews. He resigned as a school-board member in Mathews in January so that he could apply for the treasurer’s job, replacing retiring Treasurer Terry Andrika.

Stidham was hired by the McDonald board Sept. 28, 2009, just days before the district entered state fiscal emergency Oct. 15. He currently earns $60,000 annually.

The Matthews job would be closer to home for Stidham, so he can keep up with his son’s activities.

He noted the McDonald community and staff worked hard to pass needed levies and to implement changes needed to resolve the debt. “I feel good the district is in a better place than when I came. ... It’s been nice to be a part of it,” he said.

The board also approved allowing the state auditor to review the district’s finances associated with releasing the district from fiscal emergency. There is no cost to the district.

The board also approved purchase of a new school bus at a cost of $78,742 from CCI North Coast of Cleveland to be delivered in July. Two used buses also were purchased in the fall, and the district will be getting rid of older buses that became costly to repair.
