Central Ohio students sent home a second day due to odor

GALLOWAY, Ohio (AP) — A central Ohio high school has ended classes early for a second straight day because of an odor that made students and staff feel ill.

Westland High School in Galloway was evacuated Monday morning, and about a dozen students and staff who felt sick or dizzy were checked at hospitals. The remaining students were sent home.

A South-Western City Schools spokeswoman said fire and hazardous material officials said there was an “airborne irritant” in a classroom. She said air samples and the heating system were tested before the district was given an all-clear to use the building on today.

But multiple media outlets report classes dismissed early on today after another strong odor was reported.

Officials are trying to figure out what’s causing the smell.
