Police are looking for multiple assailants after a 36-year-old man was shot in the head about 4:20 p.m. Monday outside a relative’s home at 63 W. Warren Ave.
The victim, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, was conscious and able to speak to police. He said he was visiting his sister when he saw someone inside his Jeep. A short time later he got into the vehicle to leave and was shot, according to a police report.
Two males who were in the area at the time told police a white Dodge Ram and a black four-door car pulled alongside the Jeep and opened fire.
Crash victims die
NEWTON FALLS
Two are dead after a single-car accident at 11:04 a.m. Monday at Kale Adams and Newton Falls Bailey roads in Newton Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Richard Aandewiel, 27, of Newton Falls was the driver of the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier and is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The driver traveled off the road and hit a tree on the passenger side. Michael Robison, 20, of Newton Falls, was pronounced dead at Akron City Hospital. Another passenger was dead at the scene, but his identity is pending notification of family. The patrol said speed was a factor, and seat belts were not in use.
Man pleads guilty
WARREN
Michael J. Ellenis, 22, of Woodledge Drive, Austintown, pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to robbery and tampering with evidence in the July 3, 2011, robbery of Handel’s Ice Cream on U.S. Route 422 in Niles.
Police said Ellenis walked up to the window of the shop, brandished a semiautomatic gun and took a small amount of cash. Ellenis could get up to 15 years in prison.
Sentenced in shooting
WARREN
Wallace L. Walters, 29, of Draper Avenue Southeast, has been sentenced to 21/2 years in prison for firing multiple gunshots into a 19-year-old man in the parking lot of the ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road SE, during an argument Sept. 24, 2010.
Walters pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to aggravated assault with a specification that he used a firearm. Walters also pleaded guilty to being a felon in illegal possession of a firearm.

A Mahoning County Shale Initiative Committee meeting will be at 1 p.m. today at Oakhill Renaissance Place auditorium, 345 Oak Hill Ave.
Surplus produce
WARREN
The Salvation Army, 270 Franklin St. SE, will give away surplus produce to those in need starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. About four pallets of produce will be received from the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The giveaway continues Friday until the food is gone. Recipients should bring a photo ID and plastic bags to carry the produce. For information, call 330-392-1573.
Attempted abduction
WARREN
A woman reported that two people attempted to abduct her two 6-year-old daughters from in front of a house in the 1500 block of Kenilworth Avenue Southeast at 7:08 p.m. Saturday, as the girls were walking home.
The girls were approached from behind and picked up by the two suspects, but the girls were able to kick themselves free and run to a friend’s house, police said. The suspects fled in a black Ford Ranger pickup truck toward Niles Road, police said.

School-bus collision
WARREN
The driver of a Warren City Schools bus and another vehicle collided at Youngstown Road and Willard Avenue at 8:35 a.m. Monday, injuring the bus driver and the car driver, Warren police said. There were no students on the bus.
The bus driver, Millie J. Hutsenpillar, 40, of North Leavitt Road, was taken to St. Joseph Health Center. The car driver, Shawnee S. Smith, 18, of Gypsy Lane, Niles, was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Neither driver was seriously injured, police said.
Police cited Smith, who was eastbound on Youngstown Road, for failing to observe a traffic light. The school bus was southbound on Willard.
