Fires damage 2 Warren homes
Warren
Two fires in the city started in the kitchen at two different locations Sunday.
The first started at the Palmyra Warren Senior Apartments at 2470 Palmyra Road SW about 8:50 a.m., according to the Warren Fire Department. The unit in which the fire occurred took considerable smoke and fire damage, but the rest of the structure was fine, officials said. One man suffered burns and was taken to St. Joseph Health Center. The victim’s condition is unknown.
The second fire started about seven hours later at a home on 1060 Elm Road NE. The family of four was able to escape the blaze, the fire department said. The family’s cat and dog were saved.
The American Red Cross was on the scene for both fires.
Businesses challenge massage-parlor law
Warren
A new Warren law affecting massage parlors already is being challenged by the businesses.
According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s news partner, nine massage parlors filed an injunction for a temporary restraining order against the legislation that took effect Saturday. But that hearing will not take place until Tuesday.
The lawsuit takes issue with the emergency legislation calling it an “illegal exercise in its powers that deprive the defendants of the opportunity to have meaningful input into the legislation.”
Warren’s new law requires the massage parlors to close between midnight and 6 a.m. It also increases renewal fees for a masseur or masseuse from $65 dollars to more than $600 a year.
