Caroline G. Bennett, a Canfield High School senior, will represent Mahoning County in the Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program, formerly Ohio Junior Miss, on Feb. 24-25.
Twenty-five Ohio high school senior girls will arrive in Mount Vernon next Saturday for a week filled with rehearsals, luncheons with various service organizations and speaking opportunities. This year’s program will be Ohio’s 54th anniversary. It will also be the first year for the program’s new name and brand image — Distinguished Young Women — Scholarship-Leadership-Talent. Cash scholarships totaling $18,500 will be awarded to the participants. About $2 million in college scholarships are also awarded in the scholarship program.
The 55th annual Distinguished Young Women National Finals will be held in Mobile, Ala., in June.

Kindergarten registration for Lowellville School District resident students will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Children who will be age 5 by Sept. 30 are eligible to register. Parents must bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card, proof of residence and proof of custody, if applicable.
Immunizations required to start kindergarten are five DPT/DT/DTaP; four polio; two measles, mumps and rubella; three Hepatitis B; and two chicken pox.

Registration and screening for kindergarten students entering Canfield schools will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2:45 p.m. May 8 at Hilltop Elementary School and from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. May 10 at C.H. Campbell Elementary School.
The child must be a resident of the school district and be age 5 on or before Sept. 30. Children entering first grade may be 6 on or before Sept. 30 and must have successfully completed kindergarten.
The child’s original birth certificate and original Social Security card must be presented at registration, as well as proof of residence, immunization record and divorce decree or proof of custody, if applicable.
