SALINEVILLE
Two dogs were found shot to death Thursday near Salineville, close to the area where another dog was previously found stabbed and hanging from a tree, according to 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
According to the report, Columbiana County Humane agents and the sheriff’s department found the dogs.
“We’re not sure if these two cases are related; however it may be likely,” said Columbiana County Humane Agent Jan Palmer. She said the agency has had more of these types of cases in the past six months than in the last four years.
Also, Animal Charity of Ohio Office Manager Talia Musolino said in an email this week that the puppy that had part of its leg cut off is recovering and doing well after a two-hour s urgery to close the skin on its injured leg.
Also, she said the recent case of a dog found dead in the woods near Salt Springs Road was falsely reported as having been hanged. A medical examination revealed that the dog had no ligature marks around its neck nor any signs that it was hanged or killed in that fashion. When the dog was found, it was on the ground with enough slack in the rope to keep it from hanging itself. Rather, it appears to have been tied up and abandoned in the woods.
“Leaving a helpless dog tied up in the woods to die is a horrible crime that should also not be taken lightly,” she said.
“We appreciate the media’s help in keeping the community updated and aware of the animal-cruelty cases we are handling,” she added. “We also thank the community for its numerous donations to aid in the care of our new pup as well as the others residing at Animal Charity.”
