Wrestling club qualifies 17 to districts

The Canfield Wrestling Club advanced 17 wrestlers from the OYWA Canfield Sectional to compete in the OYWA District Tournament at Fitch High School. Seven Cardinals won the Sectional championship, including Ethan Fletcher (67), Andy Garr (82), Michael O’Horo (95), David Crawford (100), Daniel Kapalko (105), Dominic Cooper (110) and Angelo Petracci (120).
The top four wrestlers from each of 20 weight classes advanced to the district meet, where the top four will advance to the state meet.
Those placing second were Brody Herman (49), Alec Herman (52), Dominic Gelonese (86), Nick Crawford (90), Nathan Whitehead (100), Anthony D’Alesio (105), Tyler Stein (120), Victor Labra (132) and Taarek Maalouf (150).
Placing third were Jake Kowal (64), Hunter Helminiak (73), Carter Myers (86) and Eric El Hayek (100). Santino Marucci finished fourth at 82 pounds.
Canfield’s 17 qualifiers and seven champions outpaced all other clubs competing, including Alliance (15 qualifiers, four champions), West Branch (12 qualifiers, four champions), Beaver Local (8, 1), Salem (5, 3), South Range (five qualifiers) and Crestview (seven qualifiers). Also competing were Columbiana, Wellsville and United.
