OSHP troopers seize nearly 2,000 illegal pills and saving bonds in Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio — A man and woman from Toledo face felony charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 1,928 illegal prescription pills and 154 U.S. savings bonds with a face value of $15,400 after a traffic stop in Hancock County.

Troopers stopped a vehicle, with Ohio registration, for a marked-lanes violation on County Road 300, near U.S. Route 224 in the city of Findlay, about 1:12 a.m. Friday.

Upon contact with the driver, troopers observed obvious signs of impairment. After further investigation the driver was arrested for OVI. During search incident to arrest, several pills and paraphernalia were located on the driver’s person.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle revealed a large bag of pills and the U.S. savings bonds. Further investigation revealed the pills and savings bonds were related to a burglary in the city of Toledo that is still under investigation.

The driver, Michelle Hollman, 32, and passenger, John Heaton, 31, were charged with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. Hollman was also charged with OVI and possession of a scheduled substance, a second-degree felony.

The suspects were incarcerated in the Hancock County Jail. If convicted, Hollman could face up to 9.5 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine. Heaton could face up to 1.5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
