OSHP troopers seize more than $100K worth of heroin on turnpike

OBERLIN, Ohio — A Trumbull County man is facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized a quarter pound of marijuana, 60 bindles of powder heroin and half-a-kilo of brown heroin, worth an estimated $102,000 after a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike.

According to a press release, troopers stopped a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, with Michigan registration, for a speed violation on the turnpike at 2:34 p.m. Thursday. Troopers observed an odor of raw marijuana and a probable-cause search revealed the contraband in a backpack.

The driver, Brett Jones, 29, of Bristolville, was charged with possession of heroin, a first-degree felony.

Jones was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
