Hundreds ask Vt. to keep prank pig on police decal

MONTPELIER, Vt.

Remember the pig hidden within the decal on the doors of some Vermont State Police cruisers?

There’s now a movement under way to keep it there.

The white pig hidden within the red cows was first noticed last week, years after it was added by a prison inmate who designed the 16-inch decals.

Cid Sinclair, of Barre, has created a “Save the Pigs” Facebook page seeking to keep the pigs on the cruisers. He says times are tough, and the pigs are an opportunity for Vermonters “to laugh together as one.” The page has more than 500 supporters.

Meanwhile, more is wrong with the image than just the pig, a derogatory term for police. Vermont law says the cow in the image needs to be red, not red and white.

Necklace flushed down toilet returned months later

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.

A California woman has her gold necklace back months after she accidentally flushed it down her toilet.

San Rafael sanitation district employees were performing routine cleaning work on a pipeline last month when they came across Ann Aulakh’s necklace.

Aulakh’s friend had left a message with the district after the chain was lost.

Sewer Maintenance Supervisor Kris Ozaki said workers remembered the message and used it to trace the necklace back to Aulakh.

A worker dropped it off at her home.

Aulakh told the Marin Independent Journal the necklace was a gift from her husband on their first Christmas together in 1993.

She said she was convinced it was gone for good after she inadvertently flushed it down the toilet in October.

Ex-California mayor admits stealing mixer to make pizza

LOS ANGELES

The former mayor of a Los Angeles suburb has pleaded guilty to stealing a commercial food mixer from the local school district so he could make dough for his home pizza oven.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say Larry Guidi entered the plea Wednesday to a felony count of grand theft.

He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and one year’s probation. A commercial burglary charge was dismissed.

Guidi was a warehouse operations manager for the Hawthorne School District until he was fired last year.

Prosecutors say a security camera recorded him loading the giant mixer and a cart into his pickup truck in 2010.

The $1,300 mixer was later returned.

Guidi was the mayor of Hawthorne for nearly 20 years but didn’t run for re-election last year.
