Canfield High School Seniors Jordan Italiano and Jim Rousher celebrated National Signing Day by signing their letters of intent to play football at the collegiate level in the high school’s athletic foyer Feb. 1.
Italiano, the son of John and Carolyn, will attend Kent State University, while Rousher, son of Jim and Debbie, will attend Miami University of Ohio, on full football scholarships.
Italiano played defensive back for the varsity football team and also plays varsity basketball. He was named all-conference and all-district in football, two-time All-American Conference and is a football three-year letter winner.
Rousher played tight end for the varsity football team and also plays varsity basketball. He was named all-conference and all-district in football, two-time All-American Conference and is a football three-year letter winner.
Superintendent Dante Zambrini and board member Adrianne Sturm joined several hundred friends, teammates, CHS students, faculty, staff and Italiano’s and Rousher’s families at the signing ceremony.
“We would like to take this opportunity to recognize these two young men who have accomplished a lot here at Canfield High School and wish them the best of luck as they continue their athletic career in college. We are excited to see what they do in the future with the Golden Flashes and Redhawks,” said Greg Cooper, CHS athletic director, in welcoming everyone to the signing.
Zambrini also congratulated the students on their accomplishments.
“First of all, hats off to Jordan’s and Jim’s parents. Also, hats off to these two students who went home after practice and did their homework. This is the first rung of the ladder and the next rung is at the college level. They must continue to practice and continue to study. Also, what makes this National Signing Day even more special is that it is Spirit Week here at the high school,” Zambrini said.
Canfield High School varsity football coach Mike Pavlansky also addressed the crowd.
“Less than one percent of all high school athletes receive a full scholarship to play college sports. We wish these guys the best,” Pavlansky said.
After signing their letters of intent, Italiano and Rousher each had the opportunity to address the crowd and both athletes thanked their parents, coaches, teammates, families and everyone associated with Canfield football.
“These two young men are an example as to why Canfield is special,” Cooper said.
