Fitch wrestlers earn two runner-up finishes at EOWL

The Fitch varsity wrestling team had three runners-up en route to an eighth-place team finish at the EOWL tournament last weekend in its home gymnasium.
The overall and Division I team titles were won by Howland (229.5 points), while West Branch (225) was second overall and earned the Division II championship. Poland (77) won its first-ever EOWL championship by taking the Division III crown. Grand Valley (109) was fifth overall and first in Division IV.
The Falcons were sparked by second-place finishes by Rick Ague (106), Kyle Rocco (138) and Tyler Bell (285). Bell was originally not even scheduled to compete in the event, but was put in the lineup by Fitch coach Brett Powell after his starting heavyweight came up ill.
Zack Mackall finished fourth at 132 pounds for Fitch.
The Falcons will take this weekend off from competition to prepare for next week’s Division I sectional tournament at home.
