Doughnuts spark Super Bowl victory

The New York Giants enjoyed White House Fruit Farm’s popular blueberry doughnuts in Indianapolis last weekend, then went out and won the Super Bowl last Sunday.

The Giants defeated the New England Patriots, 21-17.

Jim Cordle, a 320-pound center for the Giants and an Ohio State graduate, discovered the local delicacies from his mother-in-law, Linda McNally from Canfield.

“When Jim was in town recently he picked up a couple of dozen to take back to the team,” McNally said.

According to Cordle, his teammates on the offensive line, as well as Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning, went through them pretty quickly. They wanted more and were disappointed to learn that they were made in Canfield and not in New York.

Knowing she would be attending the big game, Cordle made the call and placed an order with McNally. She picked up the doughnuts from White House and took them to Cordle and the team in Indianapolis.

Debbie Pifer, White House owner, is thrilled about the exposure the farm market has received recently.

“This has been quite a year,” Pifer said. “The line of Cortland, Ohio-made Sydney candles that we carry were in the goodie bags at the Golden Globes.”

McNally promised Pifer to take plenty of photos of the Giants enjoying the doughnuts.

“Who knows? Maybe one of the boxes with our logo will show up on TV,” Pifer said.

White House Fruit Farm is located on Route 62 just south of Canfield, near the intersection of Western Reserve Road.
