Canfield musicians play in OSU honor band

Three musicians represented Canfield High School at the Ohio State University School of Music’s 31st annual Honors Band festival Jan. 13-15.

More than 215 high students from all across Ohio submitted applications and recorded auditions. Of those applicants, 125 were selected to perform with this prestigious ensemble.

Juniors Michael Barkett on trumpet and Hayley Ward on alto saxophone and senior Alicia Smith on oboe participated in this event. Smith furthered Canfield’s distinction by being selected as Principal or First Chair player of her section.

The OSU Honors Band was directed by Russ Mikkelson, director of bands at The Ohio State University and guest conductor, Frederick Nyline, retired director of bands at Luther College (Iowa).
