Travel basketball team wins championship

The Boardman Spartans fourth-grade boys travel basketball team captured the championship of the Leetonia Area Sports Association tournament on Jan. 29. The boys ended with a 26-16 victory over St. Christine’s in the final. Overall this winter, the Spartans have a combined league and tournament record of 17-1 while playing against both fourth and fifth-grade competition.

Team members include Anthony Amendola, Derrick Anderson, Timmy Bowser, Raymond Cmil, Andrew Clark, Tommy Fryda, Isaac Land, Justin Marrie, Luke Ryan, Zach Ryan and Josh Sandora.

The team is coached by Tony Amendola and John Ryan.

Nominations accepted for Boardman HOF

Nominations are being accepted for the Boardman High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

They should be submitted to the school’s athletic office at 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, Ohio 44512.

Golf event set for this summer

The annual Pink Ribbon Gold Classic will be held at Tippecanoe Country Club on July 16. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. The Pink Ribbon committee will also sponsor a bus trip this spring to a local casino. Watch for further details on both of these events.
