Teens face charges

WARREN

An 18-year-old Newton Falls man is charged with burglary, and a 16-year-old Hubbard boy is charged in juvenile court, after neighbors helped police arrest them after a break-in on Maxwell Avenue Northwest on Saturday afternoon.

Jamel A. Hughes pleaded innocent in Warren Municipal Court to burglary and is being held on $75,000 bond. A second juvenile whose age and address were not given also was arrested. Five young men altogether were involved, witnesses said.

After a 5 p.m. 911 call from neighbors, police chased Hughes and other juveniles from Maxwell to Northwest Boulevard, where they were apprehended with help from Warren Township police. Police said watches, necklaces and other jewelry were taken.

If convicted, Hughes could get eight years in prison.

Tax-bill errors

WARREN

A glitch in new computer software caused 1,600 real-estate tax bills to go out in the mail last week with incorrect information on them. The mistake affected property owners who elected to have someone designated as beneficiary in the event of the death of the property owner.

In the case of the 1,600 bills, the name Joe Bobbie erroneously showed up under the names of the correct beneficiaries.

But Adrian Biviano, Trumbull County auditor, said the incorrect name showed up only on the bills and is not on the deed or any other document, and the erroneous bills have been fixed and mailed a second time.

“Why it picked [the name] up, nobody knows,” Biviano said. “The software company is checking to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The county mailed most of its 142,000 tax bills in the middle of last week.

Pharmacy break-in

Nothing appeared to be missing after a break-in at Brine Pharmacy, 906 State St.

A surveillance camera filmed someone breaking into the pharmacy early Wednesday by cutting a hole through the roof, according to police. The film from the camera revealed the break-in occurred about 3:45 a.m. The report said Girard police were notified of an alarm going off inside the pharmacy about 4 a.m. but upon arrival saw no one from outside, and the access point was not visible.
