Police: Pa. dad was drunk picking up son after DUI
ALTOONA, Pa.
Police say a central Pennsylvania father was drunk when he drove to a police station to pick up his even drunker son who had been arrested for drunken driving after he was found passed out in his car.
Online court records don’t list attorneys for David Peterson Sr., 44, and David Peterson Jr., 24, who list the same home address in Bellwood.
The Altoona Mirror reported Monday that city police have charged both men with drunken driving and other violations for incidents that occurred early Jan. 20. The elder Peterson faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 22 and his son on Feb. 15.
Police say the father’s blood-alcohol content was 11/2 times the state’s legal limit when he drove to the police station, while his son’s was slightly more than double the legal limit.
Kobayashi downs record 337 wings at Wing Bowl XX
PHILADELPHIA
Competitive-eating champ Takeru Kobayashi conquered Philadelphia’s annual gustatory gorge-fest by eating 337 chicken wings in a half-hour before a crowd of nearly 20,000 at Wing Bowl XX.
Kobayashi’s colossal consumption Friday demolished the record of 255 set a year ago by this year’s second-place finisher, Jonathan “Super” Squibb.
The extravaganza sponsored by SportsRadio 94 WIP drew thousands to the Wells Fargo Center before sunrise to watch competitors stuff themselves with chicken wings while attended to by scantily clad “wingettes.”
Kobayashi claimed a $20,000 cash prize for his victory. It was the six-time Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest champ’s first time competing at Wing Bowl, although he consumed a cheesesteak in 24 seconds as part of an eating exhibition last year.
Squibb had been trying to win his fourth consecutive Wing Bowl crown, but the Berlin, N.J., man finished a distant second with 271 wings.
Man admits jumping on backs of student athletes
HELENA, Mont.
A 250-pound Montana man with a history of jumping on the backs of student athletes in the Pacific Northwest has pleaded guilty to assault.
The Independent Record reports that Sherwin Shayegan, 28, acknowledged in court last week that he hopped on two players at a soccer tournament in October. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of assault.
Last spring, the Oregon School Activities Association warned athletes to look out for Shayegan after he turned up at events in Eugene and Pendleton and got piggyback rides from some athletes. Police in Bonney Lake, Wash., say he gave money to an athlete and jumped on his back.
Judge Bob Wood gave him a 360-day suspended jail sentence, fined him $730 and told him to “go back to Seattle and behave.”
