Local skating club glides to victory
YOUNGSTOWN
The District 7 All American Challenge Cup, sponsored by the Skating Club of Greater Youngstown, took place over the weekend of Jan. 21 and 22.
Figure skaters representing 14 rink teams from all over the state of Ohio and western Pennsylvania numbered as many as 241, and along with their coaches and supporters, converged on the Covelli Centre over a period of 25 hours.
The competition is part of the District 7 Series endorsed by the Ice Skating Institute, and the event was free and open to the public.
The Youngstown club, under the direction of Maria Koman and assistant Quinn Shaw, placed first with 1227.0 points.
