After traffic stop by patrol, Ohio woman gives birth in car

COLUMBUS

A woman’s speeding got her a warning from an Ohio state trooper but wasn’t enough to keep her grandchild from being born in her car.

Donna Richmond got pulled over last week as she was trying to rush her daughter to a Columbus hospital. She told WBNS-TV that the State Highway Patrol officer told her she was going 90 mph.

That’s when daughter Debbie Richmond says she screamed from the front passenger seat, “I’m in labor!”

The trooper let them go with the warning. But the delay from the traffic stop kept them from reaching the hospital in time, so Debbie Richmond gave birth to a baby girl in her mother’s Hyundai.

The father, Randall Altman, says he was in the back seat “freaking out.”

Inmate adds image of a pig to Vt. police-cruiser decals

BURLINGTON, Vt.

A Vermont prison inmate who makes stationery and license plates has gotten the best of the state police by adding the image of a pig to the state decal on their cruisers.

One of the spots on the cow in the state crest has been changed to the shape of a pig, a derogatory term for police.

The 16-inch car door decals are made by prisoners in St. Albans.

Middlesex station commander Lt. Paul White told The Burlington Free Press newspaper at least three of the altered decals are on cruisers at his barracks.

Vermont Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn says he learned of the altered decals recently and asked Corrections Commissioner Andrew Pallito to explain how it happened.

Flynn says about three dozen of the decals are on state vehicles. The state is going to remove them.

Montana man starts police chase as part of his wish list

BUTTE, Mont.

A 55-year-old Montana man who says he “always wanted” to be part of a police chase can check that off his bucket list.

The Montana Standard reported that John C. Hughes followed a patrol car for seven blocks early one recent morning before pulling his SUV around and taking off at speeds of up to 70 mph.

Officers say the Butte man was driving faster than 100 mph on an interstate toward Rocker, Mont.

Officers in that city laid out a spiked strip to flatten the tires on the SUV.

A police report says Hughes told officers he “just always wanted” to see what it would be like to be in a police chase. Officers say Hughes had not been drinking.

Hughes faces a charge of reckless driving while eluding police.
