YOUNGSTOWN

The Pig Iron Literary & Art Works announces two of its programs for 2012: the monthly creative-writing workshop and poetry readings.

The Work-In-Process workshop group meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month (except in November) on the second floor of the Pig Iron Press Building, 26 N. Phelps St., downtown. Jim Villani, editor and teacher, facilitates the meetings.

Enrollment is open to adults or students at any age or level of experience. There is a cost of $3 per session or $25 for an annual subscription. Reservations are not necessary.

The Pig Iron Literary and Art Works established the Work-In-Process workshop in 1995.

Meetings are informal and casual. Participants share a few pages of work they have done during the preceding month, and it is constructively discussed and reviewed. Ongoing projects are encouraged but not required. Fiction, poetry and articles are shared and discussed; the class is not genre specific.

Villani is the founder of Pig Iron Press. He is a professor of English at Stark State College in North Canton.

Parking for the evening sessions is available on Phelps Street or in the rear of the building at no cost. For more information on the workshop, call 330-747-6932 and ask for the workshop.

On the poetry front, 12 monthly events are on this year’s calendar. Readings will take place at 7:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the PIP Building and are open to the public.

Poetry readers are invited to participate in the open program after signing up at the door. Programs last about 11/2 hours. The Second Tuesday Open Poetry Reading has been hosted since 1997.
