Trumbull SWCD supervisors begin new terms of office

Davis Denman of Gustavus Township and Jan Solomon of the Lordstown were sworn in by State Rep. Sean O’Brien of Brookfield, D-65th, as supervisors of the Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District. Both recently were re-elected.

Denman, who is beginning his ninth term on the board, runs a family farm that consists of 160 Holstein cows, 160 heifers and cropland of nearly 1,400 acres.

He is a trustee on the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council Mid-East. He also is a director on the Dairy Farmers of America corporate board and Holstein Association.

He recently was named by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Villsack to serve on the national cattle board.

Solomon is beginning her third term on the board and also serves as Area 2 director for the Ohio Federation of Soil & Water Conservation Districts.

She has served 33 years as a 4-H advisor and is serving her 21st year on the Trumbull County Fair Board. She is a former member of the Lordstown board of education and is office manager for the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

Other supervisors are Peter Kepner of Hartford Township, Richard Houk of Newton Township and Bruce Lev of Liberty Township.

Soil and water conservation districts are responsible for the enhancement and protection of natural resources. Five supervisors per county serve 5-year terms.
