The Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods will have a “Save Our Schools” meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 7 Garland Ave., seeking to form a broad coalition in support of public education.

“We want to ensure that every child in Youngstown receives a quality education so that they can achieve their full potential and compete in the modern world,” said the Rev. J. Dwayne Heard, president of ACTION and senior pastor of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.

A light dinner and baby-sitting assistance will be available.

Man charged with assaulting nephew

YOUNGSTOWN

A 51-year-old Youngstown man is charged with felonious assault after an incident with his nephew.

Police arrested Keith Colvin of West Boardman Street after he told police he fired a pistol three times in the direction of his 27-year-old nephew, Curtis Brooks, on Friday night.

Brooks burst through Colvin’s garage door and began choking Colvin, according to a police report. Colvin then fired three times in Brooks’ direction.

Brooks fled on foot before his girlfriend took him to Northside Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
