Students participate in coaster contest

Staff report

North Jackson

Three juniors at Jackson-Milton High school have been working on designs for an original amusement-park ride.

A contest by Cedar Point K’NEX is open to students to design and build the rides and write a corresponding 500- to 600-word description that includes details about the effects of kinetic energy, speed, acceleration, gravity and rotational motion if the model were an actual ride.

Five winning classroom/group submissions (from all the eligible entries) will be chosen by a panel of judges, comprised of a select group of K’NEX Employees and Cedar Point officials, who will base their decision on creativity, 25 percent; uniqueness, 25 percent; detail, 25 percent; and the accuracy of detail provided in the written description, 25 percent.

K’NEX will notify the five winning classroom teachers/student-group leaders in April.

Those five winners will be posted online and opened to a public vote on www.knex.com for the fan- favorite model.

Entries, including model name, school name, school state and grade of students, will be posted on www.knex.com at noon April 18, and people may vote online.
