The sentencing hearing for Kevin L. Harris, the Warren man who pleaded guilty in federal court to operating a $20 million Ponzi scheme out of offices on Parkman Road, has been rescheduled for March 1 in federal court in Cleveland.

Harris, 46, pleaded guilty a year ago to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Most of his victims were from the Toronto, Canada, area. His Jan. 26 sentencing was delayed after Harris’ attorney asked for more time to review materials that the government recently had provided to Harris that his attorney said are “relevant for sentencing purposes.”

Fugitive captured

YOUNGSTOWN

Marlan B. Everson, 40, was arrested in the 700 block of Fairgreen Avenue on the North Side on Friday, ending a search that began March 17, 2011, when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Everson was arrested by officers assigned to the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. The warrant, issued in federal court, was for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

CityScape dinner

Youngstown CityScape, the nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing the city’s downtown and gateways through beautification, preservation and education, will host a dinner honoring Patricia Rose, president of the Better Business Bureau, on Thursday at The Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30.

Since 2010, Youngstown CityScape has awarded the “Sweet Grass Roots Award” to an individual who has made significant personal commitment to the organization’s mission of revitalizing downtown. Drug-recovery event

Orman Hall, director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, will visit Fleming House, 7300 Rose Drive, an ODADAS- certified transitional housing program for homeless, recovering women and their children, from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The visit will encourage a discussion of Gov. John Kasich’s State of the State remarks, Ohio’s efforts to combat opiate painkiller abuse, and the perspective of clients engaged in services at Fleming House.

Appearing with Hall will be Eloise Traina, director, Family Recovery Center, and Judges Carol Ann Robb and Mark Frost from Columbiana County Municipal Court.

Donations for dog

NEW SPRINGFIELD

Students at Springfield Intermediate School donated $1 each Friday to the Springfield Township police department’s canine fund. In return for their donation, students were allowed to wear pajamas to school.

Anyone who would like to donate can send a check payable to “Springfield Township Police” and mail it to officer Glenn Corey, who will be the dog handler, at the police department, 3475 East South Range Road, New Springfield, OH 44443.

Fundraiser dinner

GIRARD

The Eagles Club, 26 W. Wilson Ave., will have its sixth annual spaghetti-dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Cost is $6 for adults, children 5 and under free. Proceeds benefit children from Mahoning and Trumbull counties in need.

The fundraiser is in memory of Mason and Christian Pizzulo, who died in a Girard house fire set to cover up the murder of their mother, Lena Cross in 2005. At Christmas, funds from the dinner helped 23 children and provided 400 book bags filled with school supplies for an August giveaway at Tod Park.
