A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty, Hubbard and Girard:
LIBERTY
Jan. 25
Theft: Two women at a township store were seen on a surveillance camera removing from a counter area a wallet that a Fifth Avenue woman had reported missing.
Theft: A Euclid Boulevard couple discovered $1,871 had been removed from their joint checking account.
Theft: A woman reported the theft of two laptop computers from her apartment in the 10 block of Trumbull Court.
Arrest: U.S. marshals detained 22-year-old Stephanie A. Tate, 828 Kenneth St., Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant.
Jan. 26
Burglary: To a house in the 4700 block of Vienna Avenue through a rear door. A laptop computer was missing.
Drugs: John Rivers, 18, of 3038 Green Acres Drive, Liberty, faced a drug-abuse charge after having been pulled over on Colonial Drive. A police dog led to the discovery of a bag of suspected marijuana, a report showed.
Jan. 27
Arrest: Officers responded to a stranded vehicle in the 4200 block of Shady Road before taking 28-year-old Zachary Thompson of Dayton into custody. He was cited on charges of driving under the influence and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Theft/disrupting public services: Someone cut and stole about 190 feet of phone cable near Warner Road, interrupting service to the area.
Counterfeit: Someone tried to pass a fake $20 bill at McDonald’s, 3630 Belmont Ave.
Arrest: Shawn R. Davis, 22, of 616 N. Ward Ave., Girard, was arrested at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. Davis was wanted on a township warrant accusing him of failure to appear in court.
Fraud: A Youngstown woman told police her Belmont Avenue bank informed her that someone had signed and cashed two checks totaling $4,700 before the accuser discovered her checkbook missing.
Arrest: Police responded to a fight between two women in the 1000 block of Gypsy Lane, where they took into custody 28-year-old Eddie Winphrie, 467 W. Hylda Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant from Boardman.
Jan. 28
Theft: A woman discovered $6,445 worth of jewelry had been stolen from her Richards Drive residence.
Auto theft: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road woman reported her 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier stolen.
Theft: A $250 propane-gas grill was taken from a business in the 4800 block of Belmont Avenue.
Arrest: An altercation in the 200 block of Colonial Drive led to the arrest of 38-year-old Herbert Cross, 1600 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty, on two counts of theft and one of vandalism after a Colonial Drive woman alleged he had stolen and damaged her $500 laptop computer. Cross, who also was wanted on an outstanding township warrant, left the area in a taxi but refused to pay the fare, a report said.
Jan. 29
Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted and did $200 in damage to a garage in the 100 block of Mansell Drive.
Truck theft: Police on Belmont Avenue followed a 1997 Chevrolet truck they learned had been stolen in Youngstown.
Jan. 30
Drugs: A traffic stop near Logan Way resulted in the arrest of 49-year-old Jerry J. Bohrer, 1207 Oak St., Youngstown, on charges of falsification, failure to comply with police, possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, and having no operator’s license. Bohrer, who also was wanted on a warrant from Cuyahoga County, had a fictitious rear license plate, drug contraband and another person’s driver’s license, and initially failed to stop for authorities, they said.
HUBBARD
Jan. 25
Drugs: Police conducted a drug investigation in the 6000 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Arrest: Authorities arrested 41-year-old Patricia Collins, 7992 W. Market St., Mercer, Pa., on charges of domestic violence and assault on a police officer.
Jan. 26
Criminal damaging: Property was damaged in the 6000 block of Sittig Avenue.
Drugs: Jonathan Cunningham, 20, of 3517 Homewood Drive, Hubbard, faced a charge of trafficking in heroin.
Jan. 27
Menacing: A North Main Street resident reported having been threatened.
Jan. 30
Theft: A theft took place at Flying J Travel Plaza, 2226 N. Main St.
Burglary: Police picked up Amy R. Thompson, no age given, of 2638 N. Main St., Hubbard, on a burglary warrant.
GIRARD
Jan. 27
Robbery: A boy walking near Park Avenue reported four males assaulted him, including one who struck the accuser’s head with a hubcap, then tried to steal his backpack and a bowling ball.
Criminal damaging: Someone damaged a door to an apartment in the 700 block of Church Hill Road, evidently in an attempt to enter.
Breaking and entering: An undetermined amount of copper was stolen from the basement of a vacant residence in the 20 block of Crumlin Avenue.
Assault: A man and a woman on Trumbull Avenue each reported having been struck by the other during an argument about a cellphone.
Jan. 28
Theft: Several metal stakes were taken from a garden area at a Trumbull Avenue business.
Drugs: Authorities responded to a medical emergency in the 200 block of Elruth Court in which a girl reportedly told her mother she was unable to breathe after having inhaled an undetermined substance.
Arrest: A reckless driver near U.S. Route 422 caught the attention of police, who charged 41-year-old Douglas W. Bock, 44 Brookview Drive, Cortland, with receiving stolen property and driving under the influence. Bock, who authorities said had five stolen metal posts in his vehicle, also faced several traffic violations.
Assault/theft: An East Kline Street man said he was assaulted at a Girard eatery, though he was vague about details. Another man at the home reported his $200 cellphone missing.
Burglary: Took place in the 30 block of Juanita Drive. A $300 AM/FM/compact-disc player was stolen.
Menacing: A South State Street man reported receiving a text message containing an implied threat.
Jan. 29
Arrest: A traffic stop on Route 422 led to 60-year-old Thomas E. Gearhart’s arrest. Gearhart, of 105 11th St., Niles, was wanted by Hubbard police on a charge of failing to appear in court.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a shed in the 600 block of North St. Clair Avenue before stealing tools and lawn equipment.
Drugs: Police investigating suspicious activity in the 100 block of South State Street issued summonses to Joseph Patterson, 29, of 14 E. Second St., Girard, charging him with drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was cited on a charge of driving under suspension.
Burglary: In the 100 block of Dearborn Street, where an Xbox 360 system, 10 related games, $1,500, and other items were stolen, for a $3,050 loss.
Jan. 30
Harassment: An East Prospect Street woman reported a man sent her such messages via Facebook.
