Wilson gives $175K to his ’12 campaign for Congress
YOUNGSTOWN
In his effort to recapture the congressional seat he lost in the 2010 election, ex-U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson poured $175,000 of his own money into his campaign fund last year.
Those loans include $25,000 he gave on Dec. 31, according to a campaign report recently filed with the Federal Election Commission for financial activity during the last three months of 2011.
Of the $216,180, Wilson, a Democrat from St. Clairsville, collected last year for his 2012 run, 81 percent came from the candidate.
He received $12,000 from political action committees.
After expenses, Wilson had $167,054 in his campaign fund as of Dec. 31.
Wilson is running against Cas Adulewicz of Steubenville in the March 6 Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District race.
Adulewicz didn’t file a report with the FEC.
Candidates don’t have to file with the federal agency until their campaigns receive or spend at least $5,000.
Candidates who received or spent at least $5,000 had until midnight Tuesday to file year-end reports with the FEC.
U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, a Republican from Marietta who defeated Wilson in the 2010 election, raised $666,048 in campaign contributions in 2011.
His personal financial contributions to his campaign are a $15,000 loan and a $1,003 contribution.
Johnson received $380,306 from PACs.
After expenses, Johnson had $400,206 in his campaign fund as of Dec. 31.
Victor Smith of Waterford is challenging Johnson in the Republican primary. Smith hasn’t submitted a campaign finance form to the FEC.
The 6th District, which will see boundary changes after the general election, will include all of Columbiana County and a portion of southern Mahoning County.
In the new 13th District, which consists of much of the existing 17th, incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a Democrat from Niles, received $526,545 in contributions last year.
Of that amount, $307,150 came from PACs.
After expenses, Ryan had $207,247 in his campaign fund as of Dec. 31.
Marisha Agana, his Republican challenger, raised $8,590 last year, and had $2,556 in her campaign fund, after expenses, as of Dec. 31.
Ryan and Agana don’t have primary opponents.
The new 13th includes most of Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette of Bainbridge, R-14th, raised $789,889 in contributions, including $490,950 from PACs, last year.
He had $598,449 in his campaign fund as of Dec. 31.
His challengers — Democrat Dale V. Blanchard of Solon, Libertarian David Macko, and Elaine Mastromatteo, a Green Party candidate from Bristolvile — didn’t file reports with the FEC.
The new 14th includes the upper portion of Trumbull County.
