U.S. rep threatened

Youngstown

A Canfield man pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to charges of interstate threatening communications in June, directed to U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of Marietta, R-6th.

James Shuba, 63, is accused of calling the District of Columbia and upon reaching a Congressional employee, said he hated Johnson.

β€œI wanna kill him,” a transcript in the indictment reads. β€œHe wants to end Social Security and Medicare. I hope he dies. He should be dead.”

He was indicted by the federal court out of the Northern District of Ohio in November and will appear before District Judge Christopher A. Boyko for sentencing May 7 in federal court in Cleveland.

Dollar General arrest

YOUNGSTOWN

A 20-year-old city woman is in Mahoning County jail, accused of trying to rob the Dollar General store on Mahoning Avenue. Christine White, 20, of Bouquet Avenue, is behind bars in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

According to police, White went to the discount store just after 7 p.m. Wednesday carrying a bag. Employees noticed the bag more full when she was leaving the store than when she came in and asked to inspect it.

After the manager refused to let White leave the store without inspecting the bag, a fight took place. White was arrested shortly thereafter.
