Rossi wins Holy Family spelling bee

Neighbors | Submitted .Matthew Rossi, representing Marilyn Hammerton's fifth-grade classroom, correctly spelled the word "incompetent" and then expertly handled "foreign" to win the Holy Family Spelling Bee.
Holy Family fifth-grader Matthew Rossi will represent the school in the Vindicator’s Regional spelling bee March 17. Rossi, a student in Marilyn Hammerton’s fifth-grade classroom, survived many rounds of play to correctly spell the work “incompetent” and seal his win by spelling “foreign” to win the bee.
Eighth-grader Brennan Bizon earned a second-place finish.
Holy Family staff conducting the school spelling bee included Lissa Oslin, Joy Huber and principal Kathleen Stoops.
Students from fourth through eighth-grade participated in the event. They included, from fourth-grade, Theodore Ovaska, Alyssa Masternick, Ashley Thompson, and Margaret Faur; from fifth-grade, Angelina Sabatino, Matthew Rossi, Isabella Massaro-Suchora, and Daniel McClellan; sixth grade, Michael Puhalla; seventh grade, Tessa Snider and Adam Yossef; and from eighth grade, Brennan Bizon, Olivia Morrison, Victoria Rucci and Isabel Stoeber.
