A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Jan. 25

Theft: An Algonquin Drive woman reported five personal checks stolen.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Dairy 224, 6868 Center Road.

Jan. 26

Identity theft: A Van Drive man discovered $211 worth of unauthorized charges had been made to his debit-card account.

Jan. 28

Theft: Roseann M. Habbe, 52, of 2444 Knollwood Ave., Poland, was charged in the theft of $73 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road. She was released on a summons.

Jan. 29

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter a Shell gas station, 3190 Center Road, and damaged a double-main door.

BOARDMAN

Jan. 27

Citation: Matthew J. Campbell, 28, of 489 Garver Drive, Boardman, was cited on a drug-abuse charge.

Drugs: Police on U.S. Route 224 pulled 31-year-old Douglas J. Hogan over and charged him with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Hogan, of 247 Forest Park Drive, Boardman, had a small bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe, authorities said.

Drugs: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 28-year-old Eddie Winphrie, 467 W. Hylda Ave., Youngstown, on a felony warrant charging him with permitting drug abuse.

Domestic violence: Scott S. McCleery, 32 of 576 Windcliff Circle, Austintown, was arrested at a Market Street motel and charged with the crime after a woman alleged that while in a vehicle, McCleery punched her, then pulled the accuser from the car by the hair before throwing her to the ground during an argument.

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 600 block of East Midlothian Boulevard led to 41-year-old Melissa A. Mascarella’s arrest. Mascarella, of 2467 Datson Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge related to a theft count.

Theft: Anatoliy O. Symoni, 22, of 7670 North Lima Road, Poland, was charged with stealing a $50 set of foot inserts from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Identity theft: A Girard woman found out someone tried to gain employment at a Market Street business using her resume.

Harassment: The manager of a business in the 6500 block of Market Street reported an irate customer threatened to return a mattress by tossing it through a front window.

Theft: A member of Sam’s Club, 6361 South Ave., reportedly stole a large quantity of meat products over several months.

Menacing: A Southern Boulevard woman told authorities a former friend has been making and sending unwanted calls and text messages in an effort to make contact with her.

Weapon: Police charged William J. Ritchey III, 18, of 1358 Red Tail Hawk Drive, Boardman, with possessing a deadly weapon in a school safety zone, a fifth-degree felony, after an official with Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., reported a student with an unloaded .38-caliber handgun. Ritchey admitted having taken the firearm to school, a report said.

Stolen property: A township boy, 17, faced charges of receiving stolen property and criminal trespassing after a Terrace Drive man said he noticed money and jewelry missing from his home during the last few months.

Jan. 28

Citation: Police cited 20-year-old Kaitlynne S. Wibly, 135 Aylesboro Ave., Boardman, on a marijuana-possession charge.

Theft/vandalism: Someone stole a coin machine and damaged a washing machine and dryer at an apartment building in the 20 block of Carter Circle.

Theft: An Applewood Drive man noticed $392 worth of unauthorized transactions to his bank account.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a residence in the 80 block of Gertrude Avenue.

Robbery: An Edinburg, Pa., woman leaving a store in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road told police a man in a dark-blue or black hoodie and dark hair struck her from behind and stole her purse.

Assaults: An elderly Allan Drive woman alleged a neighbor pulled her walker from her, causing the accuser to fall. The other woman told police the elderly woman struck her face and threw water on her.

Arrest: Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person in the 300 block of Boardman-Canfield Road, where 64-year-old Dale A. Kushma, 7414 Sierra Madre Trail, Boardman, faced a felony count of operating a vehicle impaired. The charge was upgraded to a fourth-degree felony because of three OVI convictions in the past six years, a report showed.

Menacing: A man at a Doral Drive business told officers a driver jumped from his vehicle, waved a knife in the air and yelled at the accuser.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a screen and entered Neumann Dry Cleaning Co., 5315 Market St., through a window, though it appeared nothing was missing.

Breaking and entering: A rear window was used to gain entry into Swope’s Barber Shop, 4324 Market St. Several drawers and cabinets were found open and items were askew.

Jan. 29

Assault: A Youngstown man said he was pushed to the ground at a South Avenue restaurant. He suffered a cut lower lip.

Burglary: Someone entered Nancy’s Grooming, 5154 Southern Blvd., via a rear door and took a small sum of money.

Arrests: A traffic stop near Shady Run Road resulted in the arrests of Felarian E. Hampton, 25, of 4518 Washington Square Drive, Austintown, and Tamikka M. Robinson, 31, of 619 Lee Ave., Youngstown, on warrants. Hampton was wanted on a contempt-of-court charge, Robinson on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: Ten compact discs were removed from a car in the 5000 block of Firnley Avenue.

Theft: A man reported a $75 royalty check and a checkbook missing from his Overhill Road residence.

Breaking and entering: Someone tossed a rock through a window and broke into Dick Adgate Florist, 4527 Market St.

Jan. 30

Theft of services: A worker for Dental Works Inc., 930 Boardman-Poland Road, reported someone has been dumping garbage in the business’s trash bin without permission.

Harassment: A man in his 20s has been making a series of unwanted and vulgar calls to several departments at WKBN-TV, 3930 Sunset Blvd.

Possible fraud: A Shields Road woman researching job prospects online said she received an envelope containing a letter and a $1,996 check she suspected were part of a scam.

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail charged 20-year-old Eddie L. Crook Jr., 38 N. Portland Ave., Youngstown, with robbery and kidnapping after a January armed robbery at Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Attempted burglary: Someone damaged a door in an effort to enter an apartment in the 7100 block of Glendale Avenue.

Counterfeit: A man passed a phony $100 bill at Country Fair Food Store, 7465 South Ave.

Identity fraud: An Aravesta Avenue man learned that someone had used his Social Security number to file a tax return.

Theft: An employee with Denny’s Restaurant, 154 Boardman-Canfield Road, reported a woman short-changed the eatery $20.

Theft: A man in his 30s stole a $30 cellphone from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St. Jan. 31

Auto theft: Kawanjula T. Harden, 18, of 48 E. Delason Ave., Youngstown, was charged with receiving stolen property after a Washington Boulevard man reported his 2005 Ford Taurus stolen. Harden also was wanted on a bench warrant.
