New salon opens at Magnolias on the Green

After 35 years, hairdresser Jim Leone and Carolyn Cappabianca Cruz, owner of Magnolias on the Green Salon, are neighbors again.
Leone and Cruz were childhood neighbors in Youngstown and now Leone has opened his own private studio in the carriage house located on the grounds of Magnolias on the Green.
After 28 years at Panache Hair Salon and Day Spa, Leone’s goal was to create a private salon as a place of respite for his clients.
“I wanted to create a haven of relaxation and rest from the busyness of my clients’ everyday lives for them to enjoy while they are here,” Leone said.
The remodeling of the 1,500-square-foot carriage house was a family affair. Leone and his father, who owns Eagles Wings Construction, gutted the house and remodeled the entire structure. They received help from Leone’s two sons, Jimmy and Vincent. Leone’s wife, Betty, of Betty’s Designs, decorated the carriage house.
“I told Betty this was my home away from home and I wanted to feel comfortable here, so she used several components from our home in the salon,” Leone said.
Upstairs in the carriage house, Leone and his father installed two state-of-the art pedicure stations. Manicures are also available.
While it was hard for Leone to leave Panache after so many years, he felt this was something he needed to do.
“At 46 years old, to venture out on my own was a big decision. To be able to join the team of Carolyn Cruz and her great staff at Magnolias and to be able to continue to service all of my clients in Canfield and the neighboring communities means everything to me,” Leone said.
