The DC Chiropractic and Wellness Center, 1219 Niles-Cortland Road (state Route 46), is offering a one-hour massage therapy workshop on Feb. 18 at 3 p.m.

The workshop, which teaches safe and effective massage techniques, is interactive so guests must bring a partner. The cost of $45 per team must be prepaid. Participants are fully clothed during the class. Sweats or work-out attire is suggested. Call at 330-505-3515 for reservations.

Home Care receives special recognition

HomeCare Elite/¢ is an annual compilation of home care providers in the United States that rank among the top 25 percent nationwide based on quality of care/patient outcomes, process measure implementation and financial performance.

Donate food and get free examination

Youngstown

During February, Advanced Chiropractic is collecting non-perishable food and other items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley at its Boardman office, 1315 Boardman-Canfield Road, in the Pelican Park Plaza. Suggested items to bring include dry cereal, boxed food items, canned food, soup, soap, laundry detergent, and paper products.

To encourage donations, Advanced Chiropractic is offering free or discounted services to people who bring a donation worth $10 or more. Existing patients can receive free services on Feb. 18 and new patients can receive an examination, including necessary X-rays, for $20.12 during February.

Locally, the need for is food is great. A study by the Food Research and Action Center revealed that the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area ranks No. 3 in child food hardship among the nation’s top 100 metropolitan areas. In addition, the Ohio Department of Education reports that 49.9 percent of school children in the Mahoning Valley are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Habitat for Humanity accepting applicants

STRUTHERS

Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County has begun accepting applications for its home ownership program once a month instead of twice a year as in the past.

Interested families or individuals can attend one-hour information sessions to learn about the Habitat housing program. If they decide to apply, applications will be handed out at the conclusion of the session. Families must send at least one representative to an information session in order to get an application.

Dates for the winter and spring sessions, all at 6:30 p.m. at the Habitat offices, 480 Youngstown-Poland Road, Struthers, are: Feb. 23, March 21, April 17, and May 24.

Also, families must qualify based on income, credit, and willingness to volunteer and accept the restrictions of our program. The process can take six months to two years between application and home completion. Families must understand that the house will be purchased by them and they will have a mortgage payment.
