Cops end football coach concussion probe
PETERS, Pa. (AP) — Police say there’s no way to substantiate complaints against a western Pennsylvania high school football coach about players returning to the field despite suspected concussions.
Peters Township police say they found no new information following a complaint made to a county agency alleging football coach Rich Piccinini improperly pressured players to return to action.
The complaint to Washington County Children and Youth Services said the Peters Township coach was putting players in danger.
Peters Township and Pittsburgh Penguins trainer Mark Mortland had complained to the school board that Piccinini belittled players and trainers, trying to goad injured teens into playing. A subsequent investigation by the district cleared Piccinini.
Piccinini’s attorney says his client is delighted the police investigation is over.
