Valley had 5th heaviest snow accumulation in history this December

The heavy snowfall the Mahoning Valley experienced the last 10 days of the year was sufficient to rank December 2012 in the Top 10 for heaviest snowfalls in the Valley for the last month of the year.

As of early Monday morning, the Mahoning Valley had recorded 22.5 inches of snow for the month, according to the National Weather Service.

That is enough snowfall to rank the Valley’s December accumulation fifth highest in recorded history Weather service records on snowfall date back to 1934.

In first place is December 2010, when 53 inches of snow fell on the Valley. In second through fourth places are 1987 with 29.5 inches, 2007 with 23.5 inches and 1963 with 23.0 inches.
