YCS students compete in World Scholar’s Cup

Three Youngstown Christian School students competed this month in the World Scholar’s Cup, the world’s largest international interdisciplinary academic competition for high school students.

Alex Earp, Chase Miles, and Charlie Spirtos were selected from Youngstown Christian School to represent Team USA in the competition.

Alex, Chase and Charlie were in the top 20 percent of highest-scoring in the United States Academic Decathlon and also met the individual scoring criteria to qualify to represent Team USA.

Regional rounds take place in dozens of countries around the world, and students are selected to represent their respective countries in the global round on the basis of their academic performance.

The Global Tournament of Champions was hosted at Yale University with more than 40 countries represented.

Alex and Chase attended the competition at Yale University. Alex placed eighth in debate and Chase earned an honorable mention, which means that he ranked in the top 30 students in the world. Rankings were among 200 of the top-scoring students from 40 countries around the world.
