TCTC program receives highest evaluation rating

The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center achieved a rating of “Exceeds Standards” during a recent evaluation of the unit.

The school was notified of its achievement by the national JROTC director, United States Air Force Col. Matthew G. Anderer.

The rating is the highest attainable.

A formal unit evaluation was conducted Nov. 6, and Col. Anderer said, “There were no discrepancies.”

TCTC instructors are “highly dedicated and create a dynamic and supportive learning environment in and out of the classroom,” Anderer wrote in a letter to Jason Gray, TCTC principal. “The cadets displayed exemplary pride, and their extensive participation in numerous school and community-service projects is particularly impressive.”

Anders lauded the school’s JROTC staff leaders, Lt. Col. John Miller and Tech. Sgt. David Taylor, saying, “Your program defines the term ‘successful unit’ and establishes the benchmark for others to follow.”

There are 70 junior and senior students, male and female, enrolled in the TCTC program.

The objectives of JROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character and self-discipline and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.

The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self and excellence in all they do. The curriculum emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies and space exploration.
