CANFIELD

Mill Creek MetroParks accepted the gift of a dwelling and 6 acres of property at a special board meeting.

Mill Creek MetroParks Board of Park Commissioners voted Thursday to accept the gift from local philanthropists Bruce and Nancy Beeghly. The property is contiguous with Yellow Creek Park in Struthers operated by the park system, and contains abundant wildlife as well as hiking trails.

The property was on the market for $450,000 to $500,000, but park officials have not appraised it for its current value, said Linda Kostka, marketing director.

In January, park staff will begin determining the best use of the property and dwelling. The facility will be named after the Beeghly and Ward families.

A campaign will begin soon to raise private funds for renovation of the property, park officials said.
