CLEVELAND

A Northeast Ohio man is facing an attempted murder charge after authorities say he put a pillow over his girlfriend’s head and slit her throat.

The Plain Dealer of Cleveland reports that 42-year-old Anthony Coughlin of Garfield Heights was arrested on a felony charge of attempted murder after the Saturday attack.

It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

The couple was staying with a man in Chagrin Falls, east of Cleveland, when Coughlin is accused of attacking her as she slept.

The other man awoke during the struggle, got the woman in his car and called 911 after arriving at a hospital that was closed.

The woman underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Chagrin Falls police say they believed drugs and alcohol were factors in the attack.
