The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild met recently at Ciminero’s Banquet Center for its annual meeting and holiday party.

Virginia Hardman, Margaret Coon and Ramona Hurd led the installation of officers for the Chapter Advisory Board. Kim Zolnier also served on the nominating committee.

Officers for 2013 are Barbara Rosier-Tryon, president; Marion Gibson, first vice president; Diane Wittik, second vice president; Lynn Price, treasurer; and Gretchen Saunders, secretary.

Barbara Springer was chosen as 2012 Member of the Year. She was recognized for her philanthropic work in sewing garments for children, knitting hats and other items and donating them to various local children’s charities. She helps with neighborhood group projects and does show-and-tell for meetings.

The party was organized by Jodie Clark and Virginia Hardman and 65 members, and guests attended. Centerpieces and favors were made by the Niles Silver Thimbles Neighborhood Group.

This year’s challenge of making adult clothing protectors produced 27 items that were donated to local nursing homes in Trumbull and Mahoning counties. Sandi Rosier took first place; Denise Cline, second; and Pam Sullivan, third.

Monies raised from raffle baskets will be used for future projects. Anyone interested is invited to attend neighborhood group meetings.
