2 women escape burning home in Springfield Twp.

Staff Report

NEW SPRINGTFIELD

A fire at a home forced a woman to jump from a second-story window.

Fire Chief Matt Gebhardt said crews responded to a call for a fire at a house on Metz Road near state Route 630 around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. He said two women were in the home at the time.

One escaped through a first-floor door. Gebhardt said firefighters living near the home responded to the call and caught the other woman in their arms when she jumped from a second-floor window.

Gebhardt said engines arrived shortly after and contained the fire within 30 minutes. Both women were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman, where they were treated for smoke inhalation, Gebhardt said.

He said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but it did originate in the kitchen.
