Campbell traffic stop turns up crack, powdered cocaine

Police are reporting they found a rock of crack cocaine the size of a baseball during a traffic stop.

Oscar Lee Williams, 26, of New Castle, Pa., was charged with trafficking in drugs, a first-degree felony, and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was a passenger in a car stopped at 3:04 a.m. Saturday on McCartney Road near a McDonald’s.

Police stopped the car because it had its high beams on, a report says. After checking records on the driver and three passengers, police discovered that one of them, Maurice C. Moore, also of New Castle, had a warrant for failure to appear in Campbell Municipal Court on a traffic offense.

Police told Moore he was under arrest and made him get out of the car.

Police dispatch could find no record for Williams. But while Moore was getting out of the car, the police officer who made the stop noticed Williams put his hand in the crease of the rear seat, the report says.

The passengers, including Williams, were ordered out of the car but before he got out, Williams again stuffed his left hand into the crease of the rear seat, the report says.

Police found a plastic bag holding a “large white ball” inside the rear seat area, the report says.

Williams was arrested, and police flagged down a Coitsville officer for help.

After another search of the car, a second bag of suspected crack cocaine was found, the report says.

Williams was arraigned Monday. Bond was set at $150,000, or $15,000 cash. There was no information available Monday on whether he posted it.
