A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty and Girard:

LIBERTY

Dec. 15

Theft: Kristina M. Foster, 30, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after a 22-inch TV, a digital-book reader, perfume and other items were stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. Foster, of 5103 Firnley Ave., Boardman, also used a pocket knife to pry open boxes of merchandise and to try to jimmy locks on display cases, a report said.

Robbery: A shoplifting situation at Walmart led to charges of robbery and criminal damaging against 49-year-old Norman V. Wilkerson, 30 Woodland Ave., Youngstown, after store officials alleged that after stealing several packages of steaks, he fought with them while trying to flee. Wilkerson also was wanted on six warrants from Lawrence County, Pa.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue led to the arrests of Edward C. Fink and Ashlyn M. Vlassich, both 26 and of 1296 Northeast River Road, Lake Milton, after police said suspected liquid heroin was extracted from a syringe and that two additional syringes and a suspected marijuana pipe were found. Vlassich was charged with heroin possession and possession of drug-abuse instruments; Fink faced charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4000 block of Jefferson Court struck a wall to a double garage, pushing it into an adjoining apartment and causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Theft: A Chester, W.Va., woman found out her stolen debit card was used to make an unauthorized $96 withdrawal at a Belmont Avenue discount store.

Domestic violence: Police received information about an intoxicated man with a gun before charging 57-year-old George A. Dravis, 1209 Timbercrest St., Liberty, with domestic violence after his wife and daughter alleged having heard Dravis handling the firearm. The two family members got out of the home safely, and Dravis surrendered without incident, a report showed.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 3000 block of Northgate Road through a kitchen window before a .380-caliber firearm and other property was taken. The resident, who also had her dog stolen, reported having seen three young males fleeing the scene.

Theft: A Frederick Street woman reported prescription medications stolen from a bedroom.

Dec. 16

Citation: Officers responded to a vehicular accident on Belmont Avenue, where they cited 59-year-old Darryl Ulicny, 1320 Karen Oval Drive, Vienna, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Dec. 17

Theft by deception: An elderly Church Hill Road woman told police she had received a letter claiming she was the beneficiary of an $80,000 settlement but first needed to send an $865 processing fee to someone in Montreal. The victim’s bank later informed her that a $2,277 check she got with the letter was bogus.

Possible theft: An official with W.S. Guy Middle School, 4115 Shady Road, reported a student who had withdrawn from the school failed to return a band instrument.

Theft: An envelope containing $60 was removed from a car in the 100 block of East Montrose Street.

Arrest: Police on Belmont Avenue took into custody Richard D. Sutton, 216 Colonial Drive, Liberty, on a warrant from Mahoning County. Sutton, 20, was accused of failing to appear in court to face a burglary charge.

Theft: A woman discovered her cellphone missing while at a Belmont Avenue restaurant.

Theft: A Burning Tree Lane woman learned her stolen bank card was used to make two unauthorized transactions totaling about $65.

Dec. 18

Drugs: Suspicious activity in the 1600 block of Motor Inn Drive aroused the interest of police, who charged 18-year-old Kara M. Klink, 456 Iowa Ave., Girard, with marijuana possession and drug abuse after saying a bag of suspected marijuana had been found. Klink was released on a summons.

Identity fraud: A Yvonne Drive woman discovered her identity had been used without permission to add five cellphone lines to her account from numbers that originated in Utica, Miss.

Menacing: A township bank’s customer-service manager reported a Youngstown man made five calls threatening to harm a bank employee after a dispute regarding a fee charged to his account.

Dec. 19

Stolen property: Police responded to a possible vehicle theft at a township motel before charging 25-year-old Ryan R. Repko, 5854 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Cortland, with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing. Officers had to use a stun gun to control an uncooperative Repko, who they said had a screwdriver, a car stereo, a collectible gold coin and other items that had been stolen from a Caldwell, Ohio, man’s truck.

GIRARD

Dec. 14

Assault: Police charged 48-year-old James R. Salter, 467 Homewood Ave. SE, Warren, with simple assault after his girlfriend alleged that while at a U.S. Route 422 gas station, Salter had struck her head. He also dragged her from a nearby business, the accuser told authorities.

Dec. 15

Stolen property: A charge of receiving stolen property was pending against a man after police said they found a 12-gauge shotgun in his car during a traffic stop on State Street and determined the firearm had been stolen in Columbiana County. The weapon was unloaded but a vehicle search turned up two rounds nearby, a report showed.

Criminal mischief: Two Christmas decorations were tampered with in the 300 block of East Kline Street.

Burglary: Occurred in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue, where a videocassette recorder/DVD player and a wedding-ring set were taken.

Dec. 16

Harassment: A Church Hill Road woman reported getting profane and threatening calls.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed a rock and struck the hood of a vehicle traveling on East Liberty Street, resulting in a dent and a $100 damage estimate.

Dec. 17

Harassment: A Stambaugh Street man said he received numerous harassing and threatening calls and text messages.

Criminal damaging: Graffiti was spray-painted on a 20-foot section of a fence in the 100 block of Chippewa Court.

Theft: Authorities responded to a report of someone unlawfully in a vacant residence in the 600 block of Church Hill Road before filing theft and criminal-trespassing charges against Alan J. Powell, 28, of 990 E. Liberty St., Girard; Robert D. Pagan, 34, same address; and Bruce A. Sellers Jr., 20, of 38 Kenmar Court, Youngstown. Among items stolen were a large flashlight and a set of portable speakers, a report said.

Robbery: A male walking near Howard Street and St. Clair Avenue told police five people got out of a car a nd repeatedly punched and kicked him before one of the attackers stole the accuser’s wallet.

Dec. 18

Arrest: Police charged 37-year-old Danny Peters, 338 Ohio Ave., Girard, with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and resisting arrest.

Criminal mischief: Someone threw what appeared to be a Christmas ornament filled with light-green paint at a car traveling in the 100 block of Church Hill Road. The vehicle, however, did not sustain damage and the driver washed off the paint.
