Inspiring Minds, a Warren-based youth- services nonprofit organization, received a $25,000 donation from BP America to use for its after-school education program.

Inspiring Minds, founded by executive director Deryck Toles, works to engage, inspire and empower youths to reach their potential through education and exposure to life-changing experiences.

Its after-school program aims to improve grades by providing tutoring in math, science, English and language arts and offers an expressive outlet for high-school students. The program, which recently expanded to include a health and wellness component, allows students to work in a safe and structured learning environment.

“When we made it known that BP loves to support organizations that benefit the education, health and welfare of children, several people pointed me in the direction of Inspiring Minds and Deryck Toles,” said Curtis Thomas, BP’s director of government and public affairs for Ohio.

“I met with Deryck and learned of Inspiring Minds’ mission of mentoring, tutoring and guiding disadvantaged youth to a brighter future. BP jumped at the chance to provide some of the needed funding for this organization that has a track record of success and helps so many,” he said.

BP America is exploring the potential for oil and gas development in Trumbull County and surrounding areas.

“It’s amazing that a global company like BP would notice the work our organization is doing and invest in the youth of our community, who I view as one of our most important resources,” Toles said. “We’re excited about BP’s support and the opportunities it can create for our kids.”

Inspiring Minds provides young people with the opportunities and motivation to overcome the obstacles that stand between them and personal success.
