Property tax rates to fall for McDonald residents

Property-tax rates will go down about $50 a year for a $100,000 home in 2013 after a school tax reduction in the local bond issue for the construction of Roosevelt Elementary School and for renovations to the high school.
The McDonald school board said the two projects were funded by a $17 million grant through the Ohio School Facilities Commission. The district passed a $2 million bond issue that generates $170,000 a year in 1999.
In addition, the money to support two emergency levies has also been reduced for a total reduction of 1.45 mills for the district, schools treasurer Bill Johnson said.
The millage amount will go down to 3.25 mills from 4.7 mills last year.
Previously, the district had been collecting $54,984 per mill, but that will be reduced to $51,984, Johnson said.
The board accepted a donation of $2,400 from the track boosters, and volunteer assistant coaches from last year now will be paid from the donation, including two $700 stipends for the varsity boys’ and girls’ coaches and two other $500 stipends each for the junior high assistant coaches for boys and girls track teams.
The board also accepted a donation of $5,306 for the purchase of three smart boards for Roosevelt Elementary from Roosevelt Organization Supporting Educators and Students.
