The Austintown library hosted a winter wonderland event in its meeting room Dec. 10 for children.

The idea behind the event was to celebrate the beauty of the frozen world during the winter season. But with no real snow available, the library was turned into a pretend winter landscape instead — complete with winter-themed activities.

Librarian Madline Dunchak started the event by listening to “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” and dancing to the song with bells that rang with different pitches.

She then read a story that demonstrated how to use snow to make a snowman and she had a small activity to go along with it. “Snow Dance” was the next book read by Dunchak. It detailed all the fun things that can be done while there is snow on the ground outside.

In addition to reading stories, there were also many different crafts and games to participate in at the library.

One craft involved making a reindeer out of clothes pins and glitter glue. One game that was offered was to take turns picking out clothing items and see who could build a snowman the fastest. Another game featured a cutout snowman with a hole in his middle that children took turns trying to throw a ball through.
