On the first and third Fridays of every month, the Loose Knit Group meets in the library at Fellows Riverside Gardens in the Mill Creek MetroParks. The group was founded by Anita Wesler, who was the Horticulture Educator and scheduled many of the park’s events. She will retire this year.

“The Loose Knit Group started initially to make afghans, where a community of people gets together and does a sequence and another person puts them all together,” said Wesler. “We now make blankets, mittens, toys, scarves, and sculptures for such great organizations as the WYCA, Beatitude House and the Sojourner House.”

The group does not limit itself strictly to knitting – they dabble in crochet as well and do all of the projects using yarn donated from people throughout the community. Experienced knitters or crocheters are not the only ones welcome. They pride themselves on teaching any person who wants to learn their art.

“We get together and make baby blankets and hats and scarves,” said Jean Williams, a member of the Loose Knit Group. “If you don’t know how to do it, don’t worry. If you want to help, we can teach you.”
