Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a 19-year-old construction worker, who fell through a roof he was repairing in North Lima about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Saying it was contacted regarding the death early Thursday, the coroner’s office identified the worker as Alex Hrovatic, of Franklin Avenue, Salem. The coroner’s office did not provide a ruling or exact cause of death and said an autopsy would be conducted.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration was on the scene of the fall at Mahoning Valley Water Inc., 11379 South Ave., Thursday morning, said Russ Osborne, Beaver Township fire chief.

When township firefighters arrived on the scene, bystanders and co-workers were performing CPR on Hrovatic, and the fire department ambulance crew took over his care and transported him to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Hrovatic was employed by Witmer’s Inc. on state Route 14 near Washingtonville.
