POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Dec. 11

Drugs: A report was filed stating a bag containing 0.6 grams of suspected heroin, a bottle with a syringe and a spoon with burn marks were seized from a Sturbridge Drive residence. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a home in the 3300 block of Dobbins Road and stole a $450 generator.

BOARDMAN

Dec. 12

Vandalism: Four vehicles in the 7500 block of Market Street were found with scratches to their finish.

Theft: Police booked 44-year-old Gregory S. Koonse, 567 E. Washington St., Lisbon, on a felony charge after saying he had filled a plastic bin with roughly $2,300 worth of DVDs, then stole the items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Fraud: The owner of a Boardman-Canfield Road insurance agency alleged her former business partner had used the agency to fraudulently open a credit-card account and that a former employee was part of a separate theft incident.

Vandalism: Someone used a key to damage doors on seven cars at a Market Street dealership.

Dec. 13

Domestic violence: A vehicle check led to the arrest of 25-year-old Kevin A. Stavroff, 3941 Arden Blvd., Boardman, who faced a charge after his girlfriend alleged Stavroff had shoved her into a wall and struck her several times during an argument.

Weapon: A suspicious vehicle in the 1300 block of Doral Drive caught the attention of officers, who charged 20-year-old Robert D. Wolford with misdemeanor counts of carrying concealed weapons. Wolford, of 525 Poland Ave., Struthers, had a large knife in his car and two knives in his pockets, a report showed.

Theft: Struthers police handed to township authorities Anthony E. Pondillo, 2515 Midlothian Blvd., Struthers, who was wanted on a theft charge. Pondillo, 43, was accused of stealing two sets of socket wrenches from Pep Boys Automotive SuperCenter, 215 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Chester, W.Va., woman reported her purse stolen while at a Boardman-Canfield Road fast-food restaurant.

Arrest: A vehicle check on Market Street led to the arrest of 24-year-old Bethany N. Mladenoff, 1660 Manhattan Ave., Youngstown, on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Identity theft: A Youngstown woman reported her credit card stolen after having used it at a Boardman-Poland Road business, then learned it was used to make a $100 unauthorized transaction.

Burglary: To a residence in the 6700 block of Paxton Road through a side door. A 32-inch flat-screen TV, a video-game console and three Sony PlayStation 3 games were taken.

Theft: A woman discovered her $400 cellphone missing in the 900 block of Trailwood Drive.

Theft: Linda L. Weyand, 45, of 1250 Chaffin Ave., East Liverpool, was charged with stealing eight articles of children’s clothing valued at $397 from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Assault: A woman at a DeBartolo Place clinic was not hurt after reporting a male patient had intentionally struck her back and shoulder area with his cane.

Theft: Brittany N. Shelton, 21, of 813 E. Avondale Ave., and Joi L. Jennings, 27, of 323 E. Philadelphia Ave., were charged. The two Youngstown women were accused of stealing about $77 worth of merchandise from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Dec. 14

Theft: Two women in their 20s stole $600 to $700 worth of clothing from Burlington Coat Factory, 529 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 100 block of Afton Avenue was found with a broken rear window.

Theft: A man stole a $135 Philadelphia Eagles jersey from Touchdown Gifts in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A $900 bicycle was stolen in the 3900 block of Stratmore Avenue.

Aggravated menacing: A cashier at a Boardman-Poland Road store told police a man in his 60s threatened to kill her and a customer ahead of him in the accuser’s checkout lane after having become irate that the line was moving too slowly.

Stolen property: Officers took into custody 24-year-old John J. Reid, 119 W. Florida Ave., Youngstown, and booked him on one felony count of receiving stolen property after a Puyallup, Wash., man reported his vehicle stolen in the 6700 block of West Boulevard.

Theft: Michael H. Tomlin of 1619 Wellington Drive, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a $468 computer from Walmart. The 29-year-old Tomlin also was wanted on a warrant from Warren.

Menacing: A man and a woman reportedly threatened a clerk at a Boardman-Poland Road business after she refused to sell tobacco products to the man who the accuser said had no valid identification and whose age she was unable to verify.

Burglary: Occurred at a home in the 100 block of Maple Drive through the front or a rear door. Stolen was a $350 laptop computer.

Arrest: Authorities picked up 34-year-old Jason M. Pangio at his home, 6993 Ron Joy Place, Boardman. He was wanted on a warrant from Poland Village police.

Harassment: An agent with a Market Street realty company reported having received the latest in a series of threatening calls.

Theft: A Hillman Way man discovered $84 missing from his bank account.

Robbery: Two of three Walmart employees who tried to detain a shoplifter suffered minor injuries after the man wearing a ball cap and a dark-blue jacket and shirt reportedly wrestled with them as he tried to flee.

Theft: Sa-Qwann L. Sugick, 18, of 256 E. Ravenwood Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and obstructing official business when, police said, he provided a false date of birth after having stolen $568 worth of merchandise from Walmart.

Dec. 15

Theft: Two USB computer cables, a set of speakers and a package of walnuts were stolen from Walmart.

Domestic violence: Officers arrested 35-year-old Robert D. Graffius at his home, 145 Forest Park Drive, on three domestic- violence counts after his wife alleged Graffius had sent text messages in which he threatened to kill her and their two children.

Theft: Two women stole socks, a pair of slippers and other items from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Harassment: A worker for a Southern Park Mall store reported she and her daughter received a series of such calls and text messages.

Theft: A man in his mid- to late 20s took two video-game consoles from Walmart.

Arrest: Police responded to a fight at Southern Park Mall before charging a 16-year-old Youngstown boy with intimidation, a third-degree felony, and one misdemeanor count each of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. The teen was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown after authorities alleged he had been threatening toward and combative with mall security personnel. The boy also threatened to kill a police officer’s children and made a threat implying the officer would be killed, a report said.

Fraud: A Garden Ridge Court man found out his lost or stolen credit card was used at several area locations without authorization.

Arrest: A traffic stop on East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in 36-year-old Tyzell R. Martin’s arrest. Martin, of 232 Lora Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Campbell.

Theft: An Orlando, Fla., woman at Southern Park Mall discovered her cellphone and $40 missing.

Domestic violence: Thomas A. Kemp, 68, was taken into custody at his residence, 915 Donmar Lane, Youngstown, after his wife alleged Kemp had choked her while pushing her backward into a refrigerator during an argument at their township home.

Dec. 16

Criminal damaging: Someone shot three paint balls at windows to a residence in the 6600 block of Millcreek Boulevard.

Theft: Caroline E. Tirone, 26, of 3337 Loveland Road, Youngstown, was charged, accused of having stolen $819 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. She was released on a summons.
