The YMCA of Youngstown is offering basic computer and Internet training for first-time adult computer users. The training, open to any Ohio adult, is free and part of Connect Ohio’s Every Citizen Online program.

The six hours of coursework is offered from 10 a.m. to noon at 17 North Champion St. Session I meets on Jan. 8, 10 and 15; Session II, Jan. 22, 24 and 29; and Session III, Feb. 5, 7 and 12. Weight management

YOUNGSTOWN

Humility of Mary Health Partners’ registered dietitians trained in adult weight management are offering the six-week SlimDown weight management program that focuses on lifestyle changes in food, activities and behaviors.

Classes are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 13 in Community Room 2 of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman; and Thursdays, Jan. 10 to Feb. 14, at St. Joe’s at the Mall, Eastwood Mall, Niles. The cost is $40 for new participants and $20 for repeat participants.

Jameson Hospital is offering a six-week lifestyle improvement program that explores the Spectrum of Nutrition, Exercise, Stress Management & Social Support Program to impact total well being. The Spectrum is a scientifically proven program to feel better, live longer, lose weight and gain health.

Can For A Fan

YOUNGSTOWN

The Bistro Group, the nation’s third-largest franchisee of T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants, is participating in its third annual Can For A Fan virtual food drive benefitting nine regional food banks.

The T.G.I. Friday’s in the greater Youngstown area will donate one can of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for each new Youngstown local Facebook fan at Facebook.com/EatAtTGIFridays. In addition to Facebook, the initiative expands to Pinterest this year. On T.G.I. Friday’s Can For A Fan Pinterest board, Pinterest.com/eatattgifridays/canforafan, users can like the Second Harvest Food Bank pinned logo and an additional can of food will be donated. The food drive will continue through Dec. 31 or until 5,000 cans have been donated.

United Way receives $40,000

YOUNGSTOWN

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation donated $40,000 to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley for program support.

Robert Hannon, president and chief professional officer of United Way, said his organization works to be the driving force behind sustained improvement in the lives of all citizens through initiatives that promote education, income, health and community support services; including the Financial Stability Partnership, FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Card and Success by 6.
