The new NBC comedy “1600 Penn” concerns the domestic life of a fictional first family, with emphasis on its off-kilter 20-something son played by Josh Gad (“The Book of Mormon”). And somehow this reminds us that several real-life presidential kids have gone on to careers, of sort, in show biz. Take these five:

v Steven Ford: The youngest son of Gerald and Betty Ford played private investigator Andy Richards on the soap “The Young and the Restless.”

v Ron Reagan: Ronald and Nancy Reagan’s son has had a varied entertainment-biz career, including hosting a late-night TV talk show and a syndicated radio talk show.

v Patti Davis: The Reagans’ daughter had guest-starring roles in such late-1970s and early-’80s series as “The Love Boat,” “CHiPs,” “Nero Wolfe” and “Fantasy Island,” and a role on the syndicated soap opera “Rituals.”

v Chelsea Clinton: Bill and Hillary Clinton’s daughter is a correspondent for NBC News.

v Jenna Bush Hager: George W. and Laura’s fraternal-twin daughter is a correspondent for NBC’s “Today” show.

Ex-pop star Valens becomes pastor

SYRACUSE, Kan.

Pop star of the ’60s and ’70s, Frankie Valens, has a new gig — as a preacher at a small church in western Kansas. The Garden City Telegram reports that the singer, 70, who had hits with “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” became the pastor of First Christian Church in Syracuse about a month ago. Valens’ father pastored the same church in 1978 and 1979.

After his recording career ended, Valens and his wife, Phyllis, toured the country performing gospel songs and skits at various functions.

Series finale reveals Gossip Girl identity

NEW YORK

“Gossip Girl” ended its six-season run with a major reveal: The identity of its tattle-tale blogger.

Known only as Gossip Girl and given narrative voice by actress Kristen Bell, she turned out to be a he. The Monday night finale revealed Gossip Girl was secretly the work of character Dan Humphrey.

Dan, played by Penn Badgley, was a budding poet and a student at Manhattan’s posh St. Jude’s Preparatory School for Boys. But he came from the other side of the tracks, or rather, from Brooklyn.

His Gossip Girl blog was a sassy tell-all account of the lives of the privileged young adults who made up the CW drama. At the end, Dan fittingly pronounced Gossip Girl dead.
