Struthers man charged with arson

STRUTHERS

A man suspected of lighting a fire in a family’s attached garage is charged with aggravated arson.

Police accused Franklin Broadhurst, 21, of Charles Street, Struthers, of setting fire in a garage at a Wilhelm Street residence.

According to a police report, Broadhurst was living with the family for a month until he was asked to leave after threatening to choke the couple’s 9-year-old daughter with a scarf.

The couple told police they subsequently discovered two fires set on their property. One was set about 10 feet outside their bedroom window Nov. 23 and the other was set in the garage Dec. 13.

Broadhurst was arraigned Monday in Struthers Municipal Court. He will return to court at 9:30 a.m. Friday for a pretrial and trial, court officials said.

$250K bond for two accused in shooting

Bond was set at $250,000 Tuesday for two people accused in a shooting Saturday on Terrace Drive.

Keymonnie Harris, 22, of Blackburn Street, Campbell, is charged with obstructing official business, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Harris has a preliminary hearing Feb. 12.

Harris was shot twice in the arm and once in the head by the homeowner of 61 Terrace Drive, police said.

Doretha L. Weston, 36, of Miller Street, Youngstown, is charged with kidnapping, complicity to aggravated robbery and carrying concealed weapons for her purported role during the incident. Weston has a preliminary hearing set for Thursday.

The two did not enter pleas to the felony charges during their Tuesday arraignment in Mahoning County Area Court here.
